On 1 March 2004, "Red Blooded Woman" was released in the United Kingdom. The song became Minogue's twenty-third top five single when it debuted at number five on the singles chart, beaten to number one by American pop singer Britney Spears, who debuted at the top spot with "Toxic", and George Michael's comeback single "Amazing", which debuted at number four. "Red Blooded Woman" spent a total of nine weeks in the top seventy-five in the UK. Outside of the United Kingdom, the song was also successful.
Elsewhere, the song reached the top ten in Italy, Spain, Denmark, Ireland and Australia, where the single debuted at number four. The single made the top twenty in Germany, Finland, Switzerland and New Zealand where the song debuted on 21 March 2004 at number thirty-four and peaked inside the top twenty at number nineteen.[1]
Due to favourable reception of Minogue's previous releases, "Red Blooded Woman" was released in the United States. Minogue had previously found success in the dance clubs with 2001's "Can't Get You Out of My Head" and 2003's "Slow". "Red Blooded Woman" became her sixth consecutive release to reach the top forty on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart, where it peaked at number twenty-four. It also performed well on the Hot Dance Airplay chart, where it reached the top spot. The song however was not a success of the Billboard Hot 100, failing to make an impact outside of the dance market. However, several key Top 40 stations, including KIIS-FM in Los Angeles, embraced the track and gave it heavy airplay thanks to the song's more "urban" sound.
The music video for "Red Blooded Woman" was directed by Jake Nava, who has directed videos for Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Kelis, Shakira and the Spice Girls. It was filmed in Los Angeles in 2003. The video features Minogue on a freeway in a traffic jam. She leaves her car and walks around the freeway. On the way, Minogue takes off her fur coat, dances behind a tank and gets nearly bitten by two dogs. Minogue enters into another car and changes her clothes inside the car. Wearing now a red top and skirt, Minogue leaves the car and continues walking around the freeway when the night comes. She later dances in front of a truck. Throughout the video, there are scenes of Minogue in a car and performing on a stage with her dancers.
Minogue performed the song on the following concert tours:
Minogue also performed the song on the 2003 TV concert Money Can't Buy.
"Red Blooded Woman" was used twice in Kath & Kim episodes. The first time in the episode "Foxy on the Run" when Kel has a midlife crisis and can be seen playing "Red Blooded Woman at high volume in his new yellow "sports" car. The second was for the "98% Fat Free" episode in which Minogue guest-starred as Epponnee, the grown daughter of Kim. In this episode, Kim sings "Red Blooded Woman" karaoke style while Minogue's character calls out, "Give someone else a go".
